5 (Batloun-Barouk-Maasser-Botmeh) Level: moderate to difficult Length: 16 km Slope: 30% Time: 5 hours without stopping at the points of interest. The starting point is the Information Center in the village of Batloun, located at a 1073 m. altitude. The trail then heads east towards Batloun Valley through an ancient footpath linking its upper and lower parts, until it reaches the villages of Barouk-Fraidis, Maasser el-shouf and finally Botmeh. 4 5

7 Batloun The altitude of Batloun varies between 920 and 1240 meters above sea level. It is bordered to the west by the village of Kfarnabrakh, to the east by the Barouk-Fraidis, and from the south by Maasser el-shouf. Batloun is well known for its numerous natural springs and abundant waters. The ancient village was built around the Barouk River but was destroyed in the 1956 earthquake. The inhabitants moved away from the river up to the Kfarnabrakh-Barouk road and settled in what has become Upper Batloun, built with the support of the Lebanese government. The river still crosses its farmland rich in cherry trees, apples and peaches, in addition to numerous Oak trees. Recent archeological studies in Batloun revealed the existence of archaeological finds dating back to the Hellenistic period. Batloun: the name may be derived from the words "house + Elyon or Alioun" meaning the place of the God in ancient Semitic languages. Another possibility is "house + Talloun", or the house of dew and rain. 8 9

8 Old Batloun Location: near the Barouk River Story: an earthquake devastated it in 1956, and the inhabitants moved uphill to what has become Upper Batloun. Attraction: a walk in the deserted alleyways of the old village to see around 40 traditional stone houses of all types, knowing that some are currently being renovated by their owners

9 Haret el-tahta Bridge Location: over the Barouk River to the east of the Old Batloun. Story: was built during the Ottoman period to cross the river. It is made of one single arch built of fine stones. It was renovated in the 80s when a concrete layer was added to make it resist the passage of cars. Attraction: to visit the bridge that linked Batloun to Maasser el-shouf, knowing that it was part of the natural path that led to the Bekaa Valley. The Lime Kiln Location: along the old road linking Old Batloun to Maasser El-Shouf. Story: this cylindrical kiln (large furnace) was built from lime stones only without the use of mortar as was the tradition then. It dates back to the Ottoman period and lime was produced by burning limestone rocks extracted from the surroundings. Attraction: a glimpse at the old rural lifestyle in Mount Lebanon, even though what remains are ruins, and a large oak tree has decided to grow in its mouth to add some mystery and romance to the place

10 Barouk- Fraidis Located on the western slopes of Mount Lebanon at an altitude varying between 1000 and 1900 meters, lies one of the most famous villages of the region. It comprises the largest cedar forest in Lebanon, and an abundant fresh water source. It is also the native village of Rachid Nakhle, the composer of the National Anthem, and of the Honorable Cheikh Abou Hassan Aref Halawi, one of the most important religious figures of the twentieth century

11 Barouk: for some scholars it originates from the word "barak" of the Arabic language meaning "to rest"; probably in reference to caravans of the past that used to set up camp in that location, enjoying the cooling effect of the fresh water source. For others it is of Syriac Aramaic origin meaning the blessed place

12 The Dalboun Forest Location: at the foot of the Barouk Forest belonging to the villages of Batloun and Barouk. Story: classified as a protected forest by the Ministry of Agriculture since It contains a number of oak species that cover a large area spreading to the villages of Maasser el-shouf and Batloun. It is also a pilot site for the management of biomass in the reserve. Attraction: the visitor can see the traces of an old road that was used during the Ottoman period. Moreover, the forest is a site for camping, hiking and recreational activities. An ancient oak tree locally known as Oum Chratit meaning the tree of the rags is located in this forest. It has long been considered to be a religious shrine spreading its blessings on its numerous visitors

13 The Charcoal Kiln Location: in the Dalboun common land. Story: it dates back to the Ottoman era and produced coal from the wood of the surrounding oak trees. The coal was used for cooking and heating. It has recently been reconstructed as part of the awareness raising activities and the sustainable management of oak forests outside the perimeter of natural reserves. Attraction: an excursion in the past, before the introduction of fossil fuels and the installation of the electricity networks in the 1950s

14 Maasser el-shouf At an altitude that varies between 1200 and 1950 meters above sea level, and 7km away from one of the oldest groves of cedar trees in Lebanon lies the village of Maasser el Shouf. It is also one of the entrances of the Shouf Biosphere Reserve. It is a traditional rural village with a central public space, surrounded by stone houses, and an old mill. It also comprises old oak and pine trees and two natural water sources. Recent archaeological studies revealed that Maasser has been inhabited since the 4th century BC, and during the Hellenistic, Roman and Byzantine eras. An ancient Roman site, El-Hosn (meaning the fortress), with tombs carved in the rocks was discovered in its periphery. The studies have also revealed the existence of two ancient presses

16 El-Mat-Haneh/El-Marjeh Bridge Location: west of the village of Maasser el-shouf over a winter stream in the valley of Bou Geryes. Story: this one stone arch bridge was built during the Ottoman period on the road that connected Mukhtara and Botmeh to Maasser el-shouf and its area. Attraction: an interlude at the ancient vital link between the flourishing villages of the upper Shouf and the Bekaa Valley through Maasser el-shouf. El-Waqf/El Marjeh Water Mill Location: the outskirts of Maasser el-shouf, on the new road to Botmeh. Story: a two stone water mill built during the Ottoman rule. The turbines were run by water collected from a winter watercourse that crosses the Maasser el-shouf orchards. Attraction: a visit to the remains of a mill that produced flour and bulgur for many years

17 Botmeh Famous for its old stone houses, its old church, and its historical grape press, Botmeh lies at a 1050 altitude. Visitors interested in history can see the Roman sarcophaguses and the old oak tree locally named Sindyenet Fornaya, where a recent archaeological field survey revealed ceramic shreds dating back to Roman and Medieval periods. Botmeh is also renowned for its pine woods, the geological caves of El-Dabaa, El-Houwweh and Ain el-basatine; the old springs of Ain el-horch and Ain el-bayyad, as well as animal and plant fossils

18 Botmeh: the name is derived from the Botm tree, a variety of the pistachio (also known as the Palestinian pistachios), which grows in large numbers in the Lebanese mountains, especially the Shouf region

19 Malqa el-sawaqi Bridge Location: west of Maasser el-shouf after the waste water treatment plant. Story: this one arched stone bridge was built sometime during the Ottoman rule above a secondary water stream. It was an important station on the road connecting the villages of Mukhtara and Botmeh to Maasser el-shouf. Attraction: a visit to a bridge that was part of the natural road that linked the Shouf to the Bekaa

20 Hyena Grotto Location: in the mountains surrounding the village of Botmeh. Story: the nature of Lebanon's limestone mountains led to the formation of a multitude of natural caves that have, over time, roused the curiosity and imagination of the locals. Attraction: a visit to one of those places, where many legends and stories were woven around wild animals that populated the mountains and valleys

21 The Fornaya Oak Tree Location: in the region of Fornaya on the outskirts of the village of Botmeh. Story: the charm and mystery of this eternal tree have rendered it sacred and unique in the eyes of the locals. They visit it regularly to gain its benedictions and to enjoy the beauty of the place. Attraction: to rest and experience the sacredness of the place. The visitors can also benefit from the facilities provided by the Shouf Biosphere Reserve for picnicking, such as the benches and barbecue areas

23 The Shouf, a touristic destination! The villages of the trail are characterized by a cultural and historical diversity, a beautiful landscape, a mild climate and abundant water. They have been a destination for local, Arab and foreign tourists for a long time. The latter used to enjoy the traditional touristic services such as riverside restaurants, which still offer the best Lebanese cuisine, as well as some small and comfortable hotels. In addition to the traditional touristic services, and under the auspices of the Shouf Biosphere Reserve, the whole region has become a pioneer in ecotourism. The visitors can now learn about the authentic life of the locals through hiking trips into the villages, and various other activities. They can experience the real life through accommodation in the guest houses run by local residents, and enjoy the local cuisine at the hospitality tables, also run by the residents. Before leaving the region, they can buy seasonal fruits and various agricultural products, fresh or processed in a traditional way, such as dairy products, jams, honey, and olive oil soap

28 Le sentier de la gestion durable des forêts Le Sentier de la Gestion Durable des Forêts Batloun Le village de Batloun se situe à une altitude comprise entre 920 et 1240 mètres. Il est entouré par les villages de Kfarnabrakh à l'ouest, Barouk-Fraidis à l'est, et Maasser el-shouf au sud. Cette localité est connue pour ses eaux douces et ses sources naturelles abondantes. Le vieux village, détruit par le séisme de 1956, était construit au bord de la rivière el-barouk. A la suite, les habitants se sont installés plus haut dans la montagne dans de nouvelles maisons construites par l état Libanais. La rivière continue à irriguer des terres agricoles riches plantées de cerises, de pommes et de pêches. On y trouve également plusieurs forêts de chênes autour du village. De récentes études archéologiques ont démontré l existence d objets remontant à l'époque hellénistique. Batloun: le nom Batloun dérive probablement des anciennes langues sémitiques de la composition des deux racines «Beit» et «Elyoun ou Alyon» signifiant la maison du Dieu ; ou bien de la composition de «Beit» et «Talloun» signifiant la maison ou le lieu de la rosée et la pluie

Histoire: une grande partie du village a été détruite à la suite du tremblement de terre de l année 1956 et les habitants l on quitté pour s installer à ce qui devint Batloun el Fawqa. Visite : une balade dans les vieilles ruelles pour admirer une quarantaine d anciennes maisons en pierre taillée dont quelquesunes sont en cours de restauration

30 Le sentier de la gestion durable des forêts Le Sentier de la Gestion Durable des Forêts Le Pont de Haret el-tahta Emplacement: à l est de Vieux Batloun surplombant la rivière Barouk. Histoire: construit d une seule arche en pierres pendant l époque Ottomane pour relier les deux rives du Barouk. Il a été rénové dans les années 80 du XXe siècle par l ajout d une couche de béton pour faciliter le passage des voitures. Visite: découvrir le pont qui reliait la région de Batloun et Maasser el-shouf sachant que ce trajet faisait partie du chemin naturel que les gens prenaient vers la vallée de la Béqaa. Le Four à Chaux Emplacement: sur l ancienne route qui relie le vieux Batloun à Maasser el-shouf. Histoire: construit en forme circulaire et en pierre sèche uniquement sans l utilisation de mortier comme on faisait dans le Mont Liban dans le temps de l époque Ottomane. Ce vieux four permettait de fabriquer de la chaux vive à partir des rochers calcaires extraites dans les environs. Visite: un aperçu sur la vie rurale traditionnelle du Liban pendant l époque Ottomane, même si le four est en ruine et un grand chêne a poussé dans sa cavité lui donnant un aspect mystérieux et romanesque

31 Le sentier de la gestion durable des forêts Le Sentier de la Gestion Durable des Forêts Barouk- Fraidis Ce village se situe sur le versant ouest du Mont-Liban, à une altitude comprise entre 1000 et 1900 mètres. Il est l un des villages les plus célèbres du Shouf et parfois même du Liban. Il donne son nom à la plus grande forêt de cèdres, et a vu naitre et grandir le poète Rachid Nakhlé, compositeur de l hymne national libanais. Il est aussi le village natal de l honorable Cheikh Abou Hassan Aref Halawi, l'un des chefs religieux les plus illustres du XXe siècle

32 Le Sentier de la Gestion Durable des Forêts Le Sentier de la Gestion Durable des Forêts Barouk: certains attribuent l'origine du mot Barouk a la racine arabe «Barak» en lui donnant la forme d un verbe «Baraka» signifiant «Se Poser» en référence aux caravanes qui faisaient leurs haltes dans ces lieux, profitant du climat frais et de la source d eau douce, d où le nom du village. Pour d autres, l origine du toponyme est à chercher dans la langue syriaque ou araméenne signifiant le lieu saint ou sacré

33 Le Sentier de la Gestion Durable des Forêts Le Sentier de la Gestion Durable des Forêts La Forêt de Dalboun Emplacement: au pied de la forêt des cèdres du Barouk, appartenant aux villages de Barouk-Fraidis et Maasser El-Shouf. Histoire: cette forêt est classée protégée par le Ministère de l'agriculture depuis Elle inclut une grande variété de chênes allant jusqu aux villages de Maasser el-shouf et Batloun. Elle est également un site pilote pour la gestion de la biomasse dans la réserve. La forêt dispose aussi d'un terrain de camping et des pistes pour la randonnée. Visite: un aperçu sur les vestiges d une ancienne route qui était d usage à l époque Ottomane, et un moment de repos et contemplation devant le grand chêne de " Em Sharatit". Un arbre que les habitants de la région et des parages considèrent sacré et visitent régulièrement

Histoire: une meule qui produisait du charbon pour alimenter les foyers de la région utilisant les arbres de chêne de l entourage. Elle a été récemment reconstruite dans le cadre des activités de sensibilisation et de la gestion durable des forêts de chênes en dehors du périmètre des réserves naturelles. Visite: une excursion dans le passé, avant l'introduction des combustibles fossiles et l'installation des réseaux électriques dans les années

35 Le sentier de la gestion durable des forêts Le Sentier de la Gestion Durable des Forêts Maasser el-shouf Le village de Maasser el-shouf se situe à une altitude comprise entre 1200 et 1950 mètres et à 7 kilomètres d une des plus anciennes forêts de cèdres au Liban. Ce village contient l une des principales entrées de la Réserve de Cèdres du Shouf. Maasser est un village rural traditionnel aménagé autour d'une place publique bordée de maisons en pierre et d un vieux moulin. Il est entouré par des anciennes forêts de pins et de chênes et de sources d'eau naturelles. De récentes études archéologiques ont révélé que Maasser el-shouf était habité depuis le IVe siècle avant J.-C., et continuait à l être pendant les périodes hellénistique, Romaine et byzantine. Dans la périphérie du village il y a les ruines d un site archéologique datant de l'époque romaine, où sont visibles de nombreuses tombes creusées dans les rochers. Les études ont également révélées l existence de deux anciennes presses

37 Le sentier de la gestion durable des forêts Le Sentier de la Gestion Durable des Forêts Le Pont El-Mathaneh/El-Marjeh Emplacement: à l ouest de Maasser el-shouf, surplombant un cours d eau hivernal dans la vallée Bou Geryes. Histoire: un pont en une seule arche en pierre taillée a été construit à l époque Ottomane et il liait la région de Mokhtara- Botmeh à Maasser el-shouf. Visite: un aperçu sur la route régionale naturelle et très vitale à l époque Ottomane qui assurait le lien des villages prospères du Haut Shouf passant par le passage de Maasser el-shouf allant à la vallée de la Béqa. Le Moulin Hydraulique el-waqf / El- Marjeh Emplacement: dans les alentours de Maasser el-shouf au bord de la route allant à Botmeh. Histoire: un moulin à eau composé de deux pierres de broyage et qui remonte à l époque Ottomane. Les eaux étaient captées d un cours d eau qui prenait source dans les jardins de Maasser. Visite: un petit tour dans un endroit qui produisait de la farine et du boulgour pour de longues années

38 Le sentier de la gestion durable des forêts Le Sentier de la Gestion Durable des Forêts Botmeh Ce village se situe à une altitude moyenne de 1050 mètres, il est célèbre pour son ancienne église, ses maisons en pierre et de son vieux pressoir à raisin. Les amateurs de sites archéologiques peuvent visiter les sarcophages romains et le vieux chêne de Fornaya, où une étude récente a montré la présence de fragments de poterie de la période romaine et du Moyen Age. Ce village est également célèbre pour ses forêts de pins, ses grottes géologiques dont el-dabaa, el-houwweh et Ain el-basatin. Il est aussi réputé d être un lieu de vie sauvage et où se trouvent des plantes fossilisées et des sources naturelles (Ain el-horch et Ain el-bayyad)

40 Le Sentier de la Gestion Durable des Forêts Le Sentier de la Gestion Durable des Forêts Le Pont de Malqa el-sawaqi Emplacement: à l ouest du village de Maasser el-shouf après la station du recyclage des déchets liquides. Histoire : ce pont remonte à l époque Ottomane. Il a été construit en une arche surplombant un cours d eau mineur, et indiquait une étape sur une route qui liait les villages de Mokhtara et Botmeh à el-shouf et sa région. Visite : observer un pont qui faisait partie du chemin naturel passant par Maasser el-shouf allant à la vallée de la Béqaa

41 Le sentier de la gestion durable des forêts Le Sentier de la Gestion Durable des Forêts La Grotte de l Hyène Emplacement: Botmeh, avant la route qui relie Botmeh Et Maasser el-shouf, à l ouest de Maasser el-shouf. Histoire: la nature calcaire des montagnes du Liban a mené à la formation de beaucoup de grottes naturelles qui, au fil du temps, ont réveillé la curiosité et l'imagination des habitants. Visite: un voyage dans un lieu qui tire son nom d une histoire, ou plutôt d une légende, associée à un animal sauvage qui vivait en grands nombres dans la région

42 Le Sentier de la Gestion Durable des Forêts Le Sentier de la Gestion Durable des Forêts Le Chêne de Fornaya Emplacement: un bois dans la région de Fornaya qui fait partie du village de Botmeh. Histoire: un vieux chêne sacré visité par les habitants de la région pour faire des vœux et se ressourcer, suivant des traditions anciennes dans la région méditerranéenne ou les gens vénéraient certains arbres centenaires. Visite: un moment de repos et de contemplation dans un milieu calme et serein. Les visiteurs peuvent aussi utiliser las aires de piques niques mises a leurs disposition (bancs et lieux pour barbecue)

44 Le Sentier de la Gestion Durable des Forêts Le Sentier de la Gestion Durable des Forêts Le Shouf, une destination touristique! Les villages du sentier se caractérisent par une diversité culturelle et historique, un beau paysage, un climat doux et de l'eau abondante. Ils ont été une destination pour les touristes locaux, arabes et étrangers pendant de longues années. Ces dernies jouissaient des services touristiques traditionnels tels que les visites des monuments et vestiges, les restaurants riverains, qui n ont pas arrêtés de servir la meilleure cuisine libanaise, et évidemment quelques hôtels, petits mais confortables. En plus des services touristiques traditionnels, et sous les auspices de la réserve du «Shouf Biosphere Reserve», toute la région est en train d aller vers l'écotourisme. Les visiteurs peuvent maintenant s introduire à la vie authentique des habitants grâce à des randonnées dans les villages et leurs alentours, et d autres activités sportives. Ils peuvent êtres hébergés dans les maisons d'hôtes gérées par les résidents locaux, et profiter de la cuisine locale sur les tables d'accueil, également gérées par les résidents. 48 سنديانة فرنايا الموقع: حرج بمنطقة فرنايا التابعة لقرية بطمة. الحكاية: سنديانة معم رة ومقدسة يزورها سكان القرى المجاورة من أجل النذور والتبرك وهو تقليد يعود إلى العصور القديمة ما زال يمارس في بلدان حوض المتوسط. الزيارة: استراحة وجلسة تأمل وتجربة روحية في مكان هادئ وسط الطبيعة. كما يمكن استخدام الطاوالت اإلسمنتية والمقاعد الخشبية واألماكن المخصصة للشواء الموضوعة لراحة المتنزهين

49 Trail درب اإلدارة Forest Management المستدامة Sustainable للغابات مغارة الضبع الموقع: في بطمة غرب قرية معاصر الشوف قبل الطريق العام الذي يربطها ببطمة. الحكاية: سمحت طبيعة جبال لبنان المكونة من الحجر الجيري بوجود تجاويف وكهوف طبيعية أثارت مع مرور الوقت فضول السكان المحليين وغذت خيالهم. الزيارة: رحلة داخل مكان يستمد إسمه من قصة أو من أسطورة مرتبطة بالحيوانات البرية التي كانت تعيش بكثرة في جبال ووديان لبنان

50 جسر ملقى السواقي الموقع: غرب قرية المعاصر بعد محطة تكرير النفايات السائلة. الحكاية: يعود هذا الجسر إلى الحقبة العثمانية وهو مبني من الحجر من قوس واحدة فوق مجرى مائي ثانوي. وهو شك ل في الماضي محط ة على الطريق التي تربط قرى المختارة وبطمة بمعاصر الشوف. الزيارة: رؤية الجسر الذي كان يربط منطقة الشوف بسهل البقاع

51 بطمة: من شجر البطم )الفستق الفلسطيني( الذي ينمو بكثرة في جبال لبنان وخاصة في الشوف

52 بطمة تقع على ارتفاع 1050 متر فوق سطح البحر وتشتهر ببيوتها الحجرية وكنيستها القديمة وبمعصرة العنب األثرية. يمكن لهواة المواقع األثرية زيارة النواويس الرومانية وشجرة البلوط القديمة المسم اة سنديانة فرنايا حيث أظهر مسح أثري أو لي وجود كسر فخ ار من الفترة الرومانية ومن العصور الوسطى. وهي تشتهر أيضا بغابات الصنوبر وبالكهوف الجيولوجية )الضبعة والهو ة وعين البساتين( وبالحيوانات والنباتات المتحجرة وبالينابيع الطبيعية )عين الحرش وعين البياض (

53 جسر المطحنة أو جسر المرجة الموقع: غرب قرية معاصر الشوف على مجرى مائي شتوي في وادي بو جريس. الحكاية: ش يد هذا الجسر خالل الفترة العثمانية وهو مبني من قوس واحدة من الحجر. وكان يربط منطقة المختارة وبطمة بمعاصر الشوف. الزيارة: محط ة على الطريق اإلقليمي الحيوي في العصر العثماني الذي كان يربط قرى الشوف األعلى المزدهرة بسهل البقاع عبر معاصر الشوف. مطحنة الوقف أو مطحنة المرجة الموقع: خراج قرية معاصر الشوف على جانب الطريق الحديث الذي يربطها بقرية بطمة. الحكاية: طاحونة مائية من حجرين يعود تاريخ بنائها إلى العهد العثماني. كانت تدار توربيناتها بواسطة المياه التي يتم جمعها من مجرى مائي شتوي يعبر بساتين قرية معاصر الشوف. الزيارة: التعرف على بقايا مكان أنتج الدقيق والبرغل لسنوات عديدة مضت

54 معاصر الشوف: من اللهجة اللبنانية وهو مركب من جمع كلمة معصرة + الشوف وتعني المكان الذي تكثر فيه أو تتواجد فيه المعاصر في منطقة الشوف

55 معاصر الشوف تقع على ارتفاع يتراوح بين 1200 و 1950 متر فوق سطح البحر وتبعد 7 كيلومترات عن أقدم غابات األرز في لبنان وهي مدخل من مداخل محمية أرز الشوف. تعتبر قرية ريفية تقليدية تتوسطها ساحة عامة تحيط بها منازل حجرية وفيها أيضا مطحنة قديمة باإلضافة إلى غابات قديمة من الصنوبر والبلوط وينبوعي مياه طبيعية. كما وكشفت الدراسات األثرية الحديثة أن معاصر الشوف سكنت منذ القرن الرابع قبل الميالد وفي الفترات الهلنستية والرومانية والبيزنطية ويوجد في خراجها موقع الحصن الذي يعود تاريخه إلى العصر الروماني حيث توجد مدافن حفرت في الصخر باإلضافة ألثار معصرتين قديمتين

56 المشحرة الموقع: مشاع حرج دلبون. الحكاية: عمل بهذه المشحرة منذ العهد العثماني بهدف إنتاج الفحم لإلستعمال المنزلي )للطبخ والتدفئة( من أشجار البلوط التي تزخر بها المنطقة. وتم إعادة بنائها مجددا كنموذج للتوعية والتعريف وهي جزء من اإلدارة المستدامة لغابات السنديان الواقعة خارج المحميات الطبيعية. الزيارة:التعرف على الطرق التقليدية التي استعملها األقدمون لتحويل األخشاب وأغصان األشجار إلى فحم من خالل بناء المشاحر. وبهذا يتمكن الزائر من االطالع على دور الفحم الذي كان يستخدم قبل الوقود األحفوري وقبل مد شبكات الكهرباء في خمسينيات القرن الماضي

57 Trail درب اإلدارة Forest Management المستدامة Sustainable للغابات غابة دلبون الموقع: عند سفح غابة أرز الباروك تتبع قريتي بتلون والباروك. الحكاية: مصنفة غابة محمية من قبل وزارة الزراعة منذ العام 1992 وتحوي عددا من أنواع أشجار البلوط والسنديان وتغطي المنطقة الممتدة حتى حدود قريتي معاصر الشوف وبتلون. وهي موقع تجريبي أساسي إلدارة الكتلة الحيوية في المحمية. كما وتشكل موقعا ألنشطة التخييم والتنزه واأللعاب الترفيهية. الزيارة: رؤية آثار طريق قديم ال زال واضح المعالم كان مستخدما في الفترة العثمانية. وال تكتمل الزيارة إال بأخذ البركة من السنديانة المقدسة التي تعرف محليا ب"شجرة أم شراطيط" والتي آمن الناس بقدسيتها منذ القدم

58 El-Mat-Haneh/El-Marjeh Bridge الباروك: يعزي البعض أصل كلمة الباروك إلى "برك" أو استراحة القوافل في القرية قرب النبع حيث المياه العذبة والبرودة الطبيعية ويرجح آخرون أصل الكلمة إلى اللغة السريانية اآلرامية وتعني المكان المبارك

59 الباروك-الفريديس تقع هذه القرية على المنحدرات الغربية لجبل لبنان على ارتفاع يتراوح بين 1000 إلى 1900 متر وتعتبر قرية األرز والنبع والنشيد الوطني. وهي من أكثر القرى شهرة في منطقة الشوف ولبنان. تستمد شهرتها هذه من غابة األرز التي تحمل اسمها وهي واحدة من أكبر غابات األرز في لبنان ومن نبعها الذي يعتبر مصدر للمياه الوفيرة العذبة كما وهي مسقط رأس علمين لبنانيين: الشاعر الكبير رشيد نخلة مؤلف النشيد الوطني اللبناني والشيخ الجليل أبو حسن عارف حالوي أحد أهم المرجعيات الدينية في القرن العشرين

60 جسر حارة التحتا الموقع: شرق بتلون القديمة فوق نهر الباروك. الحكاية: شي د الجسر خالل العصر العثماني بهدف ربط ضفتي النهر. يتألف من قوس واحدة مبنية من الحجارة المصقولة. جرى ترميمه في ثمانينات القرن الماضي ببناء سقف من اإلسمنت المسلح فوق أرضيته لسماح مرور السيارات. الزيارة: التعرف إلى الجسر الذي كان يربط بين منطقة بتلون ومعاصر الشوف حيث يوجد ممر طبيعي استخدمه سكان المنطقة قديما للوصول إلى وادي البقاع. أتون الكلس الموقع: على الطريق القديم الذي يربط بتلون القديمة بمعاصر الشوف. الحكاية: بني هذا األتون )أو الموقد الكبير( من الحجر الجيري فقط دون استعمال الطين لتغطيته بشكل دائري بحسب تقليد بناء هذا النوع من اإلنشاءات في جبل لبنان خالل الفترة العثمانية. وكان ينتج الكلس بحرق الصخور الكلسية المستخرجة من محيطه. الزيارة: إضاءة على فصل من نمط الحياة الريفية في جبل لبنان في العهد العثماني على الرغم من حالة الخراب التي وصل إليها هذا األتون حيث تضفي شجرة البلوط الكبيرة التي نبتت في فوهته بعضا من الشاعرية والغموض عليه

61 بتلون القديمة الموقع: قرب نهر الباروك. الحكاية: تدمر جزء كبير منها على أثر زلزال 195٦ وهجرها أهلها نحو بتلون الفوقا. الزيارة: رحلة في أزق ة القرية القديمة حيث البيوت الحجرية التقليدية بكافة أنماطها والتي بدأ مالكوها مؤخرا في ترميم بعضها

62 بتلون تقع على ارتفاع يتراوح بين 920 و 1240 متر فوق سطح البحر. تحدها من الغرب قرية كفرنبرخ ومن الشرق الباروك ومن الجنوب معاصر الشوف. تشتهر بوفرة المياه العذبة حيث تكثر فيها الينابيع الطبيعية ويمر فيها نهر الباروك الذي كانت قد بنيت على ضفافه القرية القديمة التي دمرها زلزال عام 195٦. وعلى أثره أقامت الدولة حي جديد عرف ببتلون الفوقا بالقرب من الطريق الواقع بين كفرنبرخ والباروك-الفريديس. وال يزال نهر الباروك يروي األراضي الزراعية الغني ة بأشجار الكرز والتفاح والدراق. كما وتكثر في القرية أحراج السنديان. وأظهرت الدراسات األرخيولوجية الحديثة وجود معالم أثرية تعود إلى العهد الهلنستي. بتلون: قد يكون مشتقا من تركيب "بيت" + "اليون أو عليون" وتعني مكان اإلله باللغات السامية القديمة أو من تركيب "بيت" + "تلون" وتعني بيت الندى والمطر

64 درب اإلدارة المستدامة للغابات)بتلون-الباروك- معاصرالشوف-بطمة( المستوى: معتدل إلى صعب. الطول: 1٦ كم. متوسط اإلنحدار: %30. الوقت: 5 ساعات دون التوقف عند المعالم يبدأ الدرب على ارتفاع 1073 م في قرية بتلون عند نقطة مركز المعلومات قرب دار القرية ويتجه شرقا نحو وادي بتلون عبر الدورات )وهو درب قديم يربط الحارتين الفوقا والتحتا( ثم يتجه نحو قرية الباروك_ الفريديس ويمر في قرية معاصر الشوف لينتهي في قرية بطمة
